Weird trouble going on

Hello,

I am not sure if this is the right place to post this. I apologize if it's not. I use Pinguy 12.04 LTS which is Ubuntu based. I have a Dell Optiplex Gx270 with 1mb RAM and 40GB of storage. My problem is: When I try to install programs or add a repository via the terminal, it always stops at 94% and wont budge and then terminates. I tried reinstalling and my boyfriend tried formatting the HD using Gparted and reinstalling to no avail. Has anyone else had trouble like this? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
