So I've been having this issue for a while. I first noticed it on my windows side, when an HP popup said "Smart AC adapter power output is too low for this computer". I googled around and found out that the computer thought that the smart AC adapter was not providing enough current, so it throttled back my CPU performance from 2.6GHz to 1.5GHz (very annoying!!). I bought a new adapter, and... nothing... So, I thought that for sure the problem would be fixed in Ubuntu. I booted it up and checked my CPU speed with i7z (http://code.google.com/p/i7z/) and no matter what I do I can't get the CPU to go above 1.5GHZ. I even used the cpufreq gnome indicator to try to force it to speed up, but to no avail. So I am wondering if anyone out there has run into this before, or if anyone has any ideas as to how I could bypass whatever is doing this (BIOS? In which case I'm not sure if bypassing a part of the BIOS is even possible). My CPU is a first gen Intel i7 720QM (I think). Computer is an HP Pavilion dv6. If you need any more info just let me know!
Thank you so much!
