I run firefox with adblock. I haven't set a home page.
When I launch a new window, I get a page with a large globe-like icon, a google search bar, and underneath it some message apparently from Mozilla. The exact message differs, but sometimes it's an eye catching moving icon with a begging message, soliciting donations to Mozilla.
I want this gone. Mozilla is not in any charity evaluation site that I've found, and the only other similar begging web site I've dealt with (wikipedia) is notoriously poorly rated - far too small a % of donations to them go to their declared mission. I presume, given similar behaviour and complete lack of information that mozilla is probably worse.
How do I get rid of it, and any other adware from mozilla?
1) Any chance of getting a fixed version into ubuntu?
2) Is firefox properly open source, ie I can get an ubuntu source package, fix the bug, and rebuild?
3) Is firefox binary only, i.e. do i need to go to debian iceweasel or similar?
4) Anything else anyone can suggest? Perhaps I simply need to create my own home page, as a file:/// on my ubuntu system, with the google search bar and minus the ad ware.
