Serious flaw with 64 bit edition of ubuntu

This is not an ordinary problem, please comment on this even if you don't know how to solve this. I think that the Ubuntu community should be alerted to this and the kernal may need to be changed.

-----Skip below if you already know my story or don't care--

I am comming here as a last resort before going out and possibly purchacing windows xp 64 bit edition. I have spent many hours for days to try to get a wireless card to work. Unfortuanltly, this wireless card is the card that was recomended by people who told me things about linux. You may have seen me on irc channels. I have been working for going on 14 hours now. I payed for a 64 bit prossesor I just want to use what I payed for. I don't have alot of money and I finished saving up for this. I woudln't be so upset if this wasn't the card that they told me to get.

-----what is up------
My rt61 ralinkteck internal wireless card doesn't work. Not nativly, not in ndiswraper, and can't be compiled from oppensoure drivers. The hardware is hardware that the linux community told me to buy it is listed as compadible with ubuntu 6.06. Many people told me that ubuntu x64 isn't ready to be uesed as a desktop and I am starting to believe them.

before you tell me,
below does not work

http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=132980

Also, my pc does crash when trying to configure like posted here
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu....15/+bug/34902

Simmilar to this guys problem as well
http://www.averatecforums.com/archiv...hp/t-3568.html

I have a ralink wireless card in my averatec 2100. The linux, windows and mac drives can be found here http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm
They don't work, the windows ones in ndiswraper, and the native linux ones.
Also, have tried installing linux32 to make the system think it's i686 after this doesn't work. Doesn't help.

Please don't disregard this as a noob who just can't configure something. I have been using linux for years. rmmod rt61 and then ndis wrapper doesn't work as well if anyone thought I forgot to put that step in.

A picture is worth a thousand words

There is one option you should of included in the poll. I bet it would have gotten the most votes

5)The user should ask for help before using his first post as a complaint.

I would suggest making a nice post in the wireless networking section asking for help. The Ubuntu community will bend over backwards trying to help people. But you will find the old adage "you catch more flies with a teaspoon of sugar than a gallon of vinegar" holds true on the forums.

So you expect the OS to solve problems the manufacturer says they cant address?

Re: Serious flaw with 64 bit edition of ubuntu

Kilz gave some excellent advice. The poll sent this thread over the top...I don't see anything good coming of it and it's likely to start a flamewar. I'm going to close this thread with a gentle warning (you aren't in trouble) that this isn't a good way to get the help you need. Please post a new thread following Kilz's advice, maybe after reading the "how to help yourself" link in my sig.
