not able to html with php code on lamp server

I am not able to run html with php code page. If I run using php, I only get php output but html code same as html code. If I run as html I only get html output but not not php output.
So how do I run both code in one. I have installed LAMP server which contains php,mysql, and apache2 server. I tried with several options which I found on ubuntu community but could not succeed. I have ubuntu 13.04 installed.

Are you running the php code from *.php files? By default the web server only parses php through the php process if the code is in php files, not html files.
