Evernote alternative for Ubuntu? Preferably open source?

Is there such thing? If there isn't one with cloud syncing on it's own I guess I can sync them myself as long as it's something that has android client as well.

    Hi gregory12.

Take a look at Nevernote. There's a pre packaged version for Ubuntu available in this ppa: Nixnote.

    Regards.

P.S.: The Evernote Windows client works on Wine, and you can use Ubuntu 13.04+ webapps to use Evernote too.

    Hi gregory12,

I am currently working on TagSpaces, which is intended to cover some basic Evernote usecases. You can find it on tagspaces.org. It is currently released as firefox and chrome/ium extension, but soon there will be a native appications for Linux, Mac, Windows and Android.

    regards,
    Ugg

Running Evernote fine thru Wine here.

Everything seems to work fine just a slight tad clunky but works without issues.
And have it autostart on bootup. So it's there in the tray ready to be used.
Couple that with Evernote Web clipper for firefox makes for a decent use for me.

And you can still use the Web version of your Evernote in your browser if not finding a decent replacement.
As found Everpad & Nixnote (Nevernote) missing features I use. And Nixnote being based on Java a slow and resource hog when I gave it a go about a year ago.

I use Zotero. I know it's not exactly the same, but works for me. You might want to take a look. Is Firefox plug-in but also standalone version available. Great for referencing, etc.

thank you, nevernote will be good enough for start.
Is there anything else that's cloud based but not using the evernote servers?

Re: Evernote alternative for Ubuntu? Preferably open source?

I'd be happy to find a tool that does just this: Capture web pages or regions of web pages, store them locally, allow tagging and annotation, index the files, and allow full text searching.

Having a built-in "cloud" capability isn't necessary; I can handle that on my own, if I need it.

Actually,it ought to be possible to leverage something like Recoll or KDE's indexing engine for this, which reduces the task to simply capturing/tagging/annotating and storing web pages.

(I use bookmarks service, but it's the indexing and searching that I want.)
