    Reliable Linux Operating System?

Ubuntu has been and always will be my favourite Operating System. But Ubuntu 13.10 was very buggy in my humble opinion so i switched to Lubuntu 13.10 and the only major fault i could find with this OS was that the screen kept going black after every 10 minutes or so. So now i am left with the option of choosing an operating system which let's me choose a UK keyboard layout that i can rely on and don't keep going black every 10 minutes. Suggestions anyone please.

I think you are talking about the monitor going to sleep. I think you can change the time. I just install the mate desktop and use the inhibit aplet.
The only dumb question is the one not asked.

yeah probably screen saver or suspend action to save battery. though it shouldn't go blank if you are using the maschine (pressing any keys, moving mouse etc.). anyway all these can be turned off if they are not functioning propperly. search in power management to turn them off.

I've heard that Gentoo Linux is quite reliable:

By the time I finally got fed up with Fedora updates breaking my system, I found Ubuntu LTS releases. I would never install anything else unless there was a really, really good reason to do so.
