my bluetooth headset was by default in 'telephony duplex' mode

I bought a philips bluetooth headset (shb9100) about a week ago. Setup went quite smoothly, but the quality wasn't all that. My first thought was that this was because is it wireless, untill I found out in 'sound settings' that the mode was set by default to 'telephony duplex' instead of 'high fidelity playback'.
WTF?! Why would I want to listen to my music in telephone quality. Perhaps someone should change the default ... I almost went to give a poor review of the headset.

Did you make use of the microphone?

    Is everything working well still/otherwise?

I am just looking for any wireless headset whose microphone and speakers work with Ubuntu...

I've bought and returned two so far (Logitech H800 and August EP650).
