Making WD My Book Live a NAS drive

Perhaps the question itself is a bit simple, but here is more detail (I am a bit new to Ubuntu):
I am planning on building a home cloud server using 12.04LTS and Amahi, but instead of having just one large partition for everything, I plan on having a small primary SSD for Ubuntu and having everything back up to a
WD My Book Live drive that I had lying around. Is it possible to turn this into a type of NAS drive via Ubuntu or is this something that has to be done in Amahi?
I am following this site as a guide:

    Thank you so much!

You could install and configure Samba, and then share (make that device accessible over the network) it, but that's not always straight forward, especially for a new user. Amahi, on the other hand, is advertised to provide the same functionality in a simple and easy way. You don't have to use it, but I don't actually see why not. So, tough choice, ...you'll have to decide what to use first.
