wireless card sees ssid but will not authenticate

Issue=Wireless nic sees ssid but I am unable authenticate from Dell/Ubuntu laptop. When I try to connect wirelessly, Wi-Fi Network Authentication Required window pops up, I verify password and click Connect, the window closes then re-opens immediately requesting authentication.
When I plugged the USB nic into WinXP desktop PC it authenticates with network OK.

Hardware=Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop, LB-Link 150mbps usb wireless card, Linksys wrt160nl wireless router (MAC address filtering disabled)
    OS=Ubuntu 13.10

Below is output from lsusb, lshw, & iwlist.
Please let me know if more info is required.
    thanks

Try pure WPA2-AES (CCMP) encryption, check the router manual

Re: wireless card sees ssid but will not authenticate

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, after adjusting the encryption on the router from "AES or TKIP" to "AES", I am still getting the Wi-Fi Network Authentication Required window and it's not connecting.

Re: wireless card sees ssid but will not authenticate

Why is kernel 3.12 in use? 13.10 ships kernel 3.11 per default. Driver update for 3.11 via
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install --reinstall linux-headers-$(uname -r) linux-headers-generic build-essential dkms git
    git clone https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes.git
    sudo dkms add ./rtl8192cu-fixes
    sudo dkms install 8192cu/1.7
    echo "blacklist rtl8192cu" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Reboot. I dont know if this driver works with 3.12. Feel free to try it.

Re: wireless card sees ssid but will not authenticate

This laptop was a gift so I don't know why the kernel is 3.12. I loaded the 13.10 demo and lshw -C network indicates that the 3.11 kernel was used. I got the same results from the usb wireless card (i.e. it keeps asking for authentication). I'm thinking that since this is somewhat of an offbrand NIC I want to go to the HCL and pick a listed card from it to purchase. Any recomendations for a known working USB network card would be greatly appreciated.

Re: wireless card sees ssid but will not authenticate

Check if other kernels are installed:
    Code:
    dpkg -l linux-image-* | grep ii

Re: wireless card sees ssid but will not authenticate

Reboot and press the SHIFT button during boot-up. In the GRUB bootloader choose "previous ubuntu versions" and there kernel 3.11. With this one you can install the driver named above
