Recover files from External Seagate Harddrive

I installed linux on to my laptop using a USB drive, (formated fat32, then used Unetbootin for the dirty work).

Now I am normally very careful when doing this sort of thing, formating a USB drive, especially when I ALSO have an external harddrive connected. I am 99 % certain, that I did not format it, but I must have ran Unetbootin on the Seagate. Later when I went to get something off the external, all I saw on the drive was files and folders you would expect to see for a live linux USB.

I have also posted on another site, to no avail.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

It's now to late but always plug out the external disk when you install Ubuntu (or other OS). prevention is better than cure. (And look good and be careful when you selected a partition/disk to install. Take your always your time to do that.)
Don't read or write from now on on that external disk and use a recovery tool.
I saw today this link in a tread, try it out:
