Is my nvidia GTX480 driver working/active ?

Hi i`m Russ a new last week to Linux and Ubuntu user.
I`m using Ubuntu 12.04 on its own SSD drive in a dual boot with Win 7 Pro with an AMD Phenom 2 X6 cpu @ 2.8 GHz and 8 gig of memory.

I have some question:

1. I hope i`ve installed the driver for my GTX 480 using System Setting\Additional Drivers and selecting the latest nvidia driver and setting it to active, is the a way of testing my nvidia driver and caed are working/in use ?

2. I have just installed Compiz setting manager using Ubuntu software manager and was folling this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oY63UI_Mpsc video on how to set up the 3D cube, but under Effects in Compiz I dont have a check box for 3D windows, is this because my nvidia driver is not working or driver installed incorrectly ?

I have just been reading a post some pages on in this section and it talked about configuring the drive and start/stopping X, is this what I may have missed out, is there a way to check ?

If you type 'nvidia' in the dash, can you open the nvidia control center?

If you can open it without errors, then the nvidia driver is running

Yes the nvidia control center opens without issue, thanks for that such a simple sort.

Now i`m looking for the 3D windows option in Compiz thats not there.
