That would work fine for one window. What if you had three windows of the same program open, and one window was minimized?
I think what christopher was trying to say is that "click to minimize" doesn't make sense when what you are clicking is a whole application, not just a window. You couldn't implement this option in Unity.
If you are absolutely wedded to this and can't possibly use any operating system that doesn't let you click-to-minimize, you could try a different desktop environment like KDE, or XFCE, MATE or Cinnamon. You can install any or all of these onto your current Ubuntu and then choose the desktop at the login screen.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
