    Is netboot equivalent to mini.iso?

    Hi all,

First time I have posted a thread in this section and with the holidays coming up and time to tweak, I'm just getting in early and asking a question out of curiosity for the moment.

I will be installing 14.04 LTS on one of my spare 'playthings' partitions. I want to finally start doing some testing as I'll have some time to tweak. Thing is, I only install the mini.iso nowadays and build up my system just the way I like it from there. I can't find, for now, the mini.iso for 14.04 LTS. Presuming it doesn't exist yet (and perhaps never will?).

Am I right to presume that a 14.04 netboot will achieve the same end? I get only the kernel and can then add whatever apps I'm after? No bloat or unwanted stuff? I have found this:

    http://www.panticz.de/ubuntu-1404-Trusty-Tahr

Am I heading in the right direction, or is there a better way?

    Tnx in advance

(PS: I know nothing about 'netboot', but if it's the same as the mini.iso method, then I'm plenty familiar with that.

I've been thinking the same thing, so I found the same mini.iso on my local mirror (no download penalty)
    Code:
    http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/ubuntu/archive/dists/devel/main/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/ mini.iso
and did an install to a spare partition. Ran exactly as I thought and gave me a minimal Trusty install, so I'd recommend you give it a shot.

    Regards

Ah, that's right. You're in Australia, too!

Thanks for that. In another three or so weeks the world is my oyster and I shall dive right in.

Is it awkward that I as a guest say welcome to You as a host...?
    Nevertheless: welcome...
    Mini.iso rules in many occasions...

It'll turn up in here with a 'we need some testy testers to test this'
