    I understand that.

    I'm pretty sure I never said anything about -desktop other than "just as you can install xubuntu-desktop" - which could have been "just as you can install a single package you might want"

    I'm unsubscribing from this thread now so you can all confuse each other

    Thanks for the clarification. Not confused particularly, though. Hmm.

    I have Wheezy Xfde, no wait I did ... deleted it in prep for new drives going in, then will install Xubuntu and Jessie.

    I'm looking forward to this. Thanks.

    Aah, but I am a FVWM man , so Gnome or Xfce in default is really no battleof mine

    I, as well, did that and I totally agree --- my computing life is complete and way more transparent....

    What I did so far:
    ---> Download from HERE: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/In...tion/MinimalCD
    (for me, it was 64-bit PC Ubuntu 13.10 "Saucy Salamander" Minimal CD 36MB (MD5: c76f320eebd00c8e99098f34cda3bb76))
    ---> Burn and install the base system...
    ---> Restart and you get big screen Terminal only,
    ---> Type
    Code:
    sudo startx
    to get the GUI (Graphical User Interface).
    ---> Open Terminal and use
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install <package>
    to install xfce4, firefox, network-manager, gdm, synaptic, ...and from there you can go every where... .

    Note:
    I checked after every package was installed if it worked as I expected it should.
    Now finally, as a Software Illiterate , for the first time I feel kind of in control of my computer...

    or better said

    Might take a little tweaking and research to get it 'just so' but once you're there,
    that's that... Good luck with it and you'll probably never do a standard full install again!...
