    Please download here:
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/v3...surfacepro.tgz

It was built using mostly generic kernel config using these same patches for the Surface Pro as the previous version:
    http://www.mediafire.com/download/2u...cepro2-fix.tgz

Note that from now on, to save space, I will only keep the the last two kernel versions in my shared folder, which now includes just this 3.13.0-30.54 and the previous 3.13.0-29.53 kernels. Older versions have been deleted.

I would appreciate knowing if it works on the power cover, since I don't have one. If not, I will see if there is a patch for it, that I could apply to the kernel.

To Surface Pro 3 owners, whom I am very envious of, I would also appreciate knowing if this kernel works or not, and if there is any other patches I should add.

It would be best to have a single kernel patch for all Surface Pro versions and covers.
Thanks again for your work on the kernel, this most recent one and the previous work great on my surfacepro1 with type cover2.

noob question- I am using the above referenced kernel; if I do a software update, it looks like it will update to the generic kernel. I know I can just choose the proper (custom) kernel when booting up in grub, but is there (an easy) way to either disable the kernel update, or keep the custom kernel as default when booting?

    Hope that makes sense, thx!

I may be wrong, but in my experience this means that my generic kernel is at a newer version than my surfacepro kernel, and its time to update with a version provided by one of the awesome folks here on the forums!

If that's not the case for you, it looks like this askubuntu question might help you out: http://askubuntu.com/questions/21639...ult-grub-entry

Re: Will Ubuntu work on the Surface Pro 2 like it did on the original?

hello, I've found that we can use the firmware file for the Avastar/Wi-Fi card from the Windows drivers and use it on the opensource driver seemingly without problems. While this is probably useless for most people, it may be useful for 'developers'/tinkerers who are trying to diagnose problems with the mwifiex_usb driver, to remove that persistent doubt that the issues might be caused by differences in the public firmwares

Again: this does nothing to help with your Wi-Fi problems. Don't do this. And even if you consider yourself 'developer' don't blame me if you do this and your card explodes, cause I only tried it for a few minutes.

To extract the firmware file from Windows drivers:

    1. Download Surface Pro 2 driver pack from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl....aspx?id=38826

    2. Extract file mwlu97w8x64.sys . It can be found in Surface Pro 2 - June 2014.zip/Marvell/wlan . Its md5sum is
    Code:
    59debcf12e8b5ab0b14cc8b8d3c2bc66 mwlu97w8x64.sys
    3. Extract the firmware file from the driver .sys file:
    Code:
    dd ibs=1 count=492788 skip=$((0x102150)) if=mwlu97w8x64.sys of=usb8797_uapsta.bin
The md5sum of resulting usb8797_uapsta.bin should be
    Code:
    075cd2de8537348c3efc194896bd18f6 usb8797_uapsta.bin
Note that the Windows firmware is sligthly more recent that the latest available public firmware (jan2014 vs dec2013), but is also significantly smaller for some reason.

ya the power cover only shows up as a battery. Thanks so much for the work on this.

All, I rebooted into my windows partition to find a windows firmware update available dated 7/8/2014. Has anyone tried to install it yet. I don't want it to break things for my Ubuntu install. If anyone has tried it can you please post results.

    Thanks,

Re: Will Ubuntu work on the Surface Pro 2 like it did on the original?

The new update only seems to install a new Wi-Fi driver on the windows side, so it should be safe. It is a "windows hardware update" and not a firmware update.

See official changelog for more info: http://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-...update-history

Note however that if you've been skipping other updates this one may install them.

    Hi

I have just tried to install your kernel in Ubuntu 14.04.01 LTS on my SP2, i have managed to get the wifi working but the type cover seems intermittant. It sometimes works when my sp wakes from sleep.
    Specifically I ran these commands:
    1) sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.13.0-30-generic linux-tools-3.13.0-30-generic linux-cloud-tools-3.13.0-30-generic linux-image-3.13.0-30-generic
    2) sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.13.0-30-surfacepro_3.13.0-30.54_amd64.deb linux-tools-3.13.0-30-surfacepro_3.13.0-30.54_amd64.deb linux-cloud-tools-3.13.0-30-surfacepro_3.13.0-30.54_amd64.deb linux-image-3.13.0-30-surfacepro_3.13.0-30.54_amd64.deb
If I run uname -a after a reboot I can see the kernel update doesnt seem to have been applied?

dmesg shows this when i unplug and plug in the type cover:
    Code:

Doh, im an idiot. Knew it was something dumb! I needed to change which kernel boots by default in grub.

I've got your kernel working, seems pretty stable. The only problem I'm having is, the surface pro 2 never wakes correctly from sleep.
It just turns on, the fan spins up really fast, then it shuts down. Is this expected with your kernel?
