    Toshiba: Trying to set fan to full speed.

    Here's the brief of it.
    I need to set the fan of my laptop to run at full speed when I want.

    The less brief is this:
    My laptop is old, and I use lm_sensors to keep tabs on CPU temperature as on rare occasion the computer overheats.
    The model of the laptop is Toshiba Satellite A205-s4597
    The fan runs, and adjusts itself automatically without too much trouble, however I'd like to just set it to "100% power" when I'm doing anything processor intensive to ensure it is far less likely to overheat and crash because rarely the fan does NOT rev up all the way before it's too late.
    I can't control my fan speed so far as I have tried.
    I've installed lm_sensors and when I run the command "sensors" in the terminal it gives me temperature sensors, but no fan speed.
    If lm_sensors doesn't detect fan speed, is there any other way to control it?
    Clearly the fan is there, and it works. Worst case scenario I dont mind using a script that will set the fan to 100% speed at all times.

    I'm fairly tech savy but I'm new to command line so please spell things out.

    Finally found some information that's related. Using the suggestions on this thread to help lm_sensors see my fan:

    the command

    sudo modprobe w83627ehf force_id=0x8860
    brought up the rest of the sensors.
    When using lm_sensors before, all I got was core temps.

    In order to make this permanent so that lm_sensors would always show the rest of the information, I opened terminal
    and put:

    sudo gedit /etc/modules
    Then I went to the bottom of the file and typed in a new line saying:

    w83627ehf force_id=0x8860
    Now "sensors" command from terminal gives me 3 fan sensors that read 0.
    It's only at this point that I realize I've likely used a command for a chip I don't have.
    So I've gone back and removed the "w83627..." line from the /etc/modules.
    Now what?

    My BIOS doesn't offer a fan option.
    So there's one more route examined.

    The lesson here kids, is this:
    If you buy a laptop model that isn't super common, dont expect an easy solution 5 years down the road to hardware quirks. Because other people won't have figured it out, and other people wont necessarily have the same hardware components meaning fixes specific to your computer aren't so likely to come around.
