Options 12.04 lts

I mentioned to a fellow ubuntu 12.04 lts user who does not like the panel on the left, that he has 5 options, if he were to click on the ubuntu button at

log in. I can use all the different options if I choose no problem. He told me this morning he only has ubuntu and ubuntu 2 as options, no gnome or other

options. How can this be? I have 5 he has 2.?

Have you given a thought to the possibility that you have installed software that he has not. Could it be that you have installed alternative desktops and he has not?

It is possible. I have forgotten because the install was way back when 12.04 released. I told him to look in synaptic for gnome.

Have a look in Ubuntu Software Center for GNOME shell.

You can also customise the GNOME shell with extensions from https://extensions.gnome.org/
