property Synaptics Right Button Area doesn't exist, you need to specify its type

    And this is what happened.
    Code:
    ~/Downloads$ ./enable-rightbutton.sh 13
X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 141 (XInputExtension)
Minor opcode of failed request: 57 ()
Serial number of failed request: 20
Current serial number in output stream: 21
I'm not sure what any of that means. The repeated use of failed doesn't look good though.

Tapping the lower right corner for right click is pretty cool but I can't seem to hit it very often. The success rate is pretty similar to the 2 finger tap.
    try this:
    Code:
    ./enable-rightbutton.sh $(xinput | sed -rn '/Synaptics TouchPad/{s/.*id=|\s.*//gp;q}')
that way it will detect the id of your touchpad
    assuming this:
    Code:
    ~$ xinput
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]

Re: Asus 1015e-ds03. How to get Shift+tap(mouse touchpad) to send Right-Click command

Well, I finally got the touchpad working but I've moved over to Crunchbang. By adding this in the Openbox autostart it's good to go.

    Code:
    ## Detect and configure touchpad. See 'man synclient' for more info.
if egrep -iq 'touchpad' /proc/bus/input/devices; then
        synclient VertEdgeScroll=1 &
        synclient PalmDetect=1
        synclient ClickPad=1
        synclient TapButton1=1
        synclient TapButton2=3
        synclient RightButtonAreaLeft=1095
        synclient RightButtonAreaRight=2285
        synclient RightButtonAreaTop=60
        synclient RightButtonAreaBottom=1060
    fi
It turns out that the physical touchpad has a poor design in that, the area which logically should be the right-click button is actually a bit higher up. If you press the lower left area it left-clicks, the lower right area also left-clicks because the touchpad itself depresses too much, ultimately pressing the left-click switch. In order to right-click you have to place your finger a fraction below the middle-right area of the pad and press down. To be honest, I might've worked with the help Varun offered but I've already wiped Xubuntu off the drive and can't test it at the moment.

Varun, I'm sorry to have wasted your time with this touchpad issue. I appreciate your help and effort very much. I recently found #! and it's more appealing than Lubuntu or Xubuntu, IMO.

Re: Asus 1015e-ds03. How to get Shift+tap(mouse touchpad) to send Right-Click command

I also have the Asus 1015E, however, I replaced the original hard disk with a SSD disk - the increased speed is impressive. The only problem I am facing now: My touchpad settings are not ideal. Would it be possible somebody with the pre-installed Ubuntu posts the result of:

    Code:
    xinput --list-props 'ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad'
It would help me to adjust the settings on my clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 on the SSD. It seems I am missing some adjustments from Asus.

    Thank you for your help

Thanks a lot Varun - this should help me with the settings, especially the right mouse button (hard click) which is not yet working.
