    Re: Terminal

Terminal is part of the default install of Edubuntu, if I remember correctly. If the school administration has removed utilities like terminal, then they did so for a reason. That reason would be to prevent misuse of school computers.

Restrictions like this are commonplace in business. If fact, not complying with an employer's conditions for using a computer would result in dismissal. We cannot do what we like with other people's property. This is life in the real world.

I would suspect that the Software Centre has been removed as well as terminal. This is what I would do if I was school administrator. Do what we have to do if we are an employee - ask permission and ask for instructions from the IT administrator.

Sorry but it is a no from me.
It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things.

    Re: Terminal

That's the long way to say, "ask your lab technician or system administrator"

When I ran labs, I always had the terminal available because the students were old enough to handle it and I wanted for them to explore and learn. So it might be there in your lab, too, though maybe not in the default settings for your lab.

Try pressing ctrl-alt-t in Ubuntu, but if that does not do it then ask and maybe someone can help you out by tweaking your account.

    YOU can't.
Normal users can't install software, which is the way it is suppose to work.

As per the above posts, plead your case to the system's administrator.

Ctrl+alt+t is a Unity shortcut. I doubt it is set up that way in Edubuntu.

Out of curiosity, what kind of commands were you planning on running in the terminal as a normal user on a lab computer?

It works in Lubuntu, too, which is why I mentioned it. But it may not be configured in Edubuntu. It's not set that way in Xubuntu and Mint, I can add.

I suppose CTRL+ALT+F2/F7 would also be disabled?

Not sure why I thought Edubuntu shipped with something other than Unity...
