    screensaver slideshow script

I need help in creating a small script which will run the screensaver(either xscreensaver or gnome-screensaver) to run a slideshow of images from a particular location. I'm using Ubuntu 12.04LTS 64bit.

    Re: screensaver slideshow script

Xscreensaver can already produce a slideshow of images from any folder on your computer; I already use it for just that and change the folder I use regularly; why reinvent the wheel?

Make sure you have the xscreensaver-gl installed and it will be in the long list of screensavers available.

Xscreensaver is a much better option that gnome-screensaver in my opinion, as it is a lot more flexible and configurable.

    Re: screensaver slideshow script

I manage a couple of ubuntu systems through Puppet. I need to deploy a script so that a pre-defined set of pictures will display as slideshow when screensaver is activated.

    Re: screensaver slideshow script

If you use xscreensaver there will be a hidden .xscreensaver file in the users home of each machine which you could edit remotely by script to change anything you wanted. Here is mine with the long list of screensavers which are available on my machine edited out, but the slideshow line still there. This may give you some clues as to how to proceed with this remote configuration.
    Code:
