    Gnome-classic (no effects)/Flashback Desktop ONLY

Got a new (used) monitor (23").

In the pass I have ran two desktop panels, now, on this monitor, I find plenty of realestate on one panel. I have switched everything around more than once and just not happy how it keeps turning out. So I wish to see if others running gnome had better ideas for setting up this monitor.

Would you like screenshots (like this one, but more personalized)?

    Hi sudodus

After playing with the panel some more, I find what I want is a launcher panel that appears below the top panel with auto hide. Something like this ..

    launch pnl.jpg

I tried doing this with another top panel, but auto-hide will not work with stacked panels and I want it to auto hide in the center of the monitor.. So Im guessing I need to find the proper app launcher/dock for 'under' or 'on top of' the ubuntu top panel.

Guess for the moment I will just use a side launcher. Got vBox running now (new install) so I can play with some panels. Its been a few years, but as I recall lxpanel was not dependent on the desktop environment. Maybe something that simple will work instead of a dock. Still want it to end up at top center of the monitor.

    Tried these:

    cairo-dock
    docky
    lxpanel
    xfce4-panel
    simdock

They all have one thing in common. They interact poorly when place under/over the top panel. Im beginning to think this is not possible.

    Cairo-dock will do this.
In the configuration go advanced mode > position
and you can set the distance to the screen edge.
