Red face Is There An Ubuntu-Friendly RADIO STATION - Mine is too much download.

    Hi Friends,

I love the "soma" of continuous ambient radio in the house. My subscription to www.calmradio.com is about to expire. But when I changed to Ubuntu three months ago, I was unable to import the SHORTCUTS to Rhythmbox. And when you listen to the radio, online, instead, the bit rate is too high, and you're download usage is used up.

Does anyone know of an AMBIENT radio station that either has a very low bit rate or is UBUNTU FRIENDLY - with shortcuts that can be imported into Rhythmbox?

    Thanks in advance!

Install VLC, select internet in the left hand pane, then Jamendo selections, Lounge + Ambient.
Edit: Something wrong with VLC or Jamendo at the moment. VLC is locking up, the music is Dance instead of Lounge and is distorted. Maybe try later.
    The bit rate was 96kbs.

I think a program like Radio Tray would be good. It can play Internet radio and what not.

    shoutcast

many stations on Shoutcast [some with low bitrate]for free ambient too also radiotuna enter new age or ambient also somafm

what you can do with this is right click on any of the stations [white arrow on blue circle]and save link and then open in the music player of your choice... any of them

you could also open that saved file in a text editor find the address of the station and then make a playlist save it then open in the music player of your choice... any of them

this is what one can do

copy and save text below in a text editor like gedit
    call it Relaxation.pls
and open in ANY music player in Ubuntu or elsewhere

you can add any number you want by adding file 19 etc...

    Tested in VLC and Deadbeef

A very nice way to play this is to open a terminal and enter

    Code:
find -iname relaxation.pls -exec nvlc --nocolor {} +
    or better still try

    Thanks so much, again, 'coldraven',
I've got VLC but there's no "internet" option anywhere, except for "Open Network Stream", which I don't understand at all. There's no list of radio stations on my VLC.

Thanks. I've found it in software centre - **** - (: . But I hate to get new software until I'm betta at Ubuntu. Also, I wanted to avoid all the advertisements, and pay for a subscription, for continuous "soma" (relaxation).

Hello friend, Guayadeque. I just couldn't stand the adds and prompts for donations all the time, and was happy to fork out a little for a "health essential". Calm radio is the most healing - soothing, anything techno is going a bit further upbeat. I really enjoy complete relaxation, like at the spa. Great image. (:

    XBMC radio

another way is to install XBMC with the shoutcast plugin
then you have access to 50000 radio stations and you have calmradio.com [sampler for free]in there
as well and there are many chill stations under new age

    Code:
    1. ctrl+alt T to bring up terminal

    2.sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc/ppa
    3.sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install xbmc

    now it is installed
see images to help rig up shoutcast2

Ahh ok. Cool beans. Any media player with Internet radio support would suffice. I used Radio Tray quite a while back, and its a solid program (to me).
