Hey everyone
Okay, just a quick poll--in your opinion, which version of Ubuntu is the best? I'm running just plain ol' Ubuntu right now, but I've heard a lot about Lubuntu and Xubuntu, and they seem pretty good also. Thanks for reading!

"Best" is subjective. The only way to know is to try them out yourself.
Yes, you have a point oldos2er. I suppose that trying them out is the only way to know. Thanks for replying!
The best version of Ubuntu is the one that works best for you, it may not even be Ubuntu. I'd suggest trying the derivatives too, Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu-Gnome or Xubuntu may be the best version for you.
That being said, I run development versions of Ubuntu, Ubuntu-Gnome and Xubuntu, all have their good and bad points.
no, kubuntu is the best one.
seriously just try them , see what you like and use what you like or what seems best for you. for me it really is Kubuntu or Xubuntu. Lubuntu can be recomended for older mashcines & netbooks.
Read the easy to understand, lots of pics Ubuntu manual.
Do i need antivirus/firewall in linux?

If you like a mac-type interface, then ubuntu with unity can't be beat...with it's auto-hiding dock (even though on left instead of bottom) global menu and mac-like search feature (the dash) it definitely has a very MAC type of feel
The last version before Unity.

ask 100 people , get 100 answers. The best is the version that best fills the needs of the user. not long ago i spent a day and a half trying different versions until i found the one that worked best
on the particular computer i was working with. (an hp mini110). As far as the basics go there is little difference, i prefer the Mate desktop and once that is installed and the additional programs i like they are basically the same.
My final choice was Mint 13 Mate. So i guess id say that is the best.
The only dumb question is the one not asked.

it would be an either-or answer...
you can always find a most suitable choice for you which might not be the same case of others...
