If you ever happen to want to link against installed libraries
in a given directory, LIBDIR, you must either use libtool, and
specify the full pathname of the library, or use the `-LLIBDIR'
flag during linking and do at least one of the following:
       - add LIBDIR to the `LD_LIBRARY_PATH' environment variable
         during execution
       - add LIBDIR to the `LD_RUN_PATH' environment variable
         during linking
       - use the `-Wl,-rpath -Wl,LIBDIR' linker flag
       - have your system administrator add LIBDIR to `/etc/ld.so.conf'

See any operating system documentation about shared libraries for
more information, such as the ld(1) and ld.so(8) manual pages.

    Re: Medibuntu repositories closing

Hey, with this videolan site, we need something called Git to get libdvdcss. I'm quite new to ubuntu and don't want to mess it up. Could someone please walk me through what on earth I need to do to get dvd playback on 13.04 please?

    Libraries have been installed in:
       /usr/local/lib

You don't need git. Just get the appropriate libdvdcss2 .deb package for your architecture and install it: http://download.videolan.org/pub/debian/raring/

The package libdvdread4 includes a script /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh that automates the download and install from the videolan site.

Yes...just go to the link Temujin just provided and select the deb package for libdvdcss2 (64 bit or 32 bit depending on what your computer has)...once you download the deb, go to the downloads section of your file manager and you will see it...right click and select the option to open with ubuntu software center which will install it for you...the other file you need (libdvdread4) is already installed on your system when you downloaded ubuntu restricted extras...

Yes, but unless you enable the proposed repo to get the updated package, the install-css.sh script still points to medibuntu.
