    Distribution question

I have an Asus Eee netbook and would like to run 'qlandkartegt' on it.
What is the best 'smallest' Linux distribution to use for this?

    Any help appreciated.

    Re: Distribution question

I run Xubuntu (current release) on my Asus Eee (along with a package to make the hardware play better with the OS), and I'd say it's the best of the mainstream Ubuntus for that hardware, but its certainly not the smallest Linux distro that will work. I've also run Puppy Linux on the machine, which is considerably smaller, and works pretty well. I tried some others, even smaller, but with less success (unfortunately, I don't have records of which ones I tried with specific information about what wasn't working). Haven't any experience with qlandkartegt.

    Thank you for replying.

I've used Xubuntu and liked it. Not found of Unity in Ubuntu.
What is the name of this package?

Welcome. This is a question that has been asked many time before. Low spec in order: Xubuntu, Lubuntu, then onto Puppy and a galaxy of others. You can go just for window managers with a system running Fluxbox, Openbox ... etc. Lowest spec would be a server like system with no desktop environment at all and working from terminal/CLI.

    Trawl through here:

And a search for 'low spec linux distro' perhaps. Good luck.

I'll have to check when I get back home. In the meantime, here's a couple of other possibly useful links:

The package name is eee-control. Some parts work better than others. If nothing else you'll get support for the four hotkeys in the upper left portion of the keyboard.

    https://launchpad.net/eee-control/

    Hope it's useful.
