Good morning:
I'm a reincident/persistent linux user, having tried many times to move from the MS platform with little success.
So to all extents and purposes I can say that I'm sort of new(ish) to linux.
I'm now giving Ubuntu 12.04 LTS a try.
I started by installing 10.04 and then doing an online upgrade to 12.04 LTS.
I have been attempting to get the infamous ath9k_htc driver problems fixed and the Matrox G400 twin head card properly configurated but I have not had much success save being able to narrow the ath9k_htc driver problems to something related to CRDA configuration data in the adaptor's EEPROM and how 12.04 LTS deals with it.
I've installed Synaptic Package Manager (absent from 12.04 LTS) and used it to install and upgrade the system.
I've also installed deborphan.
The question at hand is this:
If I run Synaptic Package Manager, select the 'custom filter' tab and then the 'broken' package list, I see that Synaptic says:
---
1683 packages listed, 1683 installed, 0 broken, 0 to install/upgrade, 0 to remove.
---
According to the help file, the procedure is this:
---
To show all broken packages choose the Broken filter.
To correct the broken packages perform the following steps:
Choose Edit ▸ Fix Broken Packages from the menu.
Apply the marked changes to actually fix the packages:
Click on Apply in the toolbar.
Choose Edit ▸ Apply Marked Changes from the menu.
Press the key combination Ctrl+E.
---
But when I do --> Choose Edit ▸ Fix Broken Packages from the menu the 'Apply' button remains shaded and cannot be clicked on.
Code:
--> sudo apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
--> sudo apt-get install -f
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
sudo apt-get clean && sudo apt-get update
--> sudo apt-get install --fix-broken
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Why are 1683 packages listed as broken?
Am I missing something here?
Thanks in advance,
CIV
