    Your Vista CD is bad, then.

    Installing Ubuntu will never stop your computer from booting a different CD or DVD.
    I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.

    I thought about this a little and it occurred to me that maybe you have a Vista upgrade disk.
    If it's an upgrade disk, then it just won't boot, as it was never meant to.
    It's a shot in the dark, but it is possible.
