PDFs with Video give "A 3D data parsing error has occurred"

I have been sent some pdfs with embedded video. When I open them with Adobe Reader 9.5.5 I get the message "A 3D data parsing error has occurred".

I have seen previous (older) posts on the web stating that this is a known problem. I have tried okular, but it does not seem to notice that there is a video in the pdf.

Are there any other solutions? I have no idea what format the video is in. My 64-bit 12.04 system seems to be able to play most stand-alone (i.e. not embedded) videos that I have tried.

I installed Adobe Reader 9.5.0 for Windows under Wine 1.5.29. This works. I have no idea why it works and 9.5.5 for Linux doesn't.

I tried tried the latest Windows Reader (XI - 11 to those of us who are not Roman) but Wine did not like it and it failed to install.

I shall mark this Solved in a few days.

I don't like using Wine if I do not have to, so if there is a better solution to playing pdfs with videos please let me know.
