    You can use the WindowsXP Bootable CD entering the repair option or use what I personally use.

    Edit: Or you can google "miniPE2 -XT". it's a WinXP Live CD based on BartPE. All the diag. applications you need are already on it. You will have to download the updated data files (seperate download) to get the virus engine up to date.

    First, thank you - this is absolutly wonderful!

    I'm trying to mount two NTFS drives plus two SAMBA drives using the configuration below. Upon reboot, onlt the ntfs drives come up. But If I umount/mount - then all four drives come back up - am I doing something silly?

    /dev/sda2 /media/ntfs1 ntfs-3g silent,umask=0,locale=en_US.utf8,no_def_opts,allow _other 0 0
    /dev/sdb1 /media/ntfs2 ntfs-3g silent,umask=0,locale=en_US.utf8,no_def_opts,allow _other 0 0
    //10.0.0.2/music_1 /media/music_1 smbfs defaults 0 0
    //10.0.0.2/music_2 /media/music_2 smbfs defaults 0 0

    So what happens to the 2 ntfs drives if you comment out the 2 network file systems and reboot?

    I don't know the default option of smbfs, but try to add auto.

    Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using the NEW ntfs-3g (easy & safe method)

    I tried it with a USB drive and at first I tried by mounting it through /etc/fstab and everytime I tried to mount it it said that /dev/sda1 did not exist though it was showing when the fdisk -l | grep NTFS command was run so I tried method 2 using the nautilus script. This didnt work either? There must be something I missed along the way. I hope you can help me.

    PS how did you set the transparency on your window borders in Gnome?

    What are the error you get with the script.
    And for the transparency -> compiz (but this one is an old version, now you have the choice between vista, vista, vista, and osx... )

    Thanks for the "how to". Everything went smoothly on the first try. This will definitely be more convenient for me.

    Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

    In testing ntfs-3g, install and config went fine - thanks to all. I then created a text file text.txt on my HDD NTFS partition (used Nautilus create document) and edited as a normal user with gedit. The files contents were written to the NTFS partition with no problems. Now if I retry to edit this file in gedit it keeps complaining:

    "Could not save the file /media/sda5/temp/test.txt.
    A file with the same name already exists. Please, use a different name."

    The file can be edited via something like OpenOffice, so is this something to do with gedit? Also in testing I noticed the Date Modified value on NTFS partitions is not being updated when a file is saved. It is correct when a new file is created, but then subsequent saves after modification do not update the Date Modified value?
