And it stop like that. Strange.
Seeing at the uuid of the device, it seems to be a fat32 one, isn't it ?
What version of pmount do you have :
    Code:
    apt-cache policy pmount
    Let see also your ~/.xsession-error

    Thanks

this is pretty much the same as before... yes is a vfat usb key, but this behaviour is the same when I mount my ntfs partition or when I insert a cd; the mounting does not show the icon and do not play any actions.

    Thanks!

I downgrade but I get the same results... maybe a restart of the machine is needed?

    Reboot, but no way

    Try that.
Also, if it don't work, you might run a full removable device debugging test:
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices
    Just post the result there.

Mmm, I did the test (following Dapper session because Edgy is not avail.) but does not seem to me that is useful... anyway I have a suspect upon the mount point that in someways is missing in some conf file, the mount point is in my case /media

    Strange LOL
    I've installed ivman
I plug the USB key and the USB key is mounted automatically as gnome-volume-manager can do...
