    stian@stian-desktop:~$ man ntfs-3g
    Reformatting ntfs-3g(8), please wait...
    stian@stian-desktop:~$ umask=0
    stian@stian-desktop:~$ option uid=1000,gid=1001
    bash: option: command not found
    stian@stian-desktop:~$ umount /dev/hdb1
umount: /dev/hdb1 is not mounted (according to mtab)
    stian@stian-desktop:~$ mount /dev/hdb1
mount: only root can mount /dev/hdb1 on /media/stian
    stian@stian-desktop:~$ sudo mount /dev/hdb1
Failed to mount '/dev/hdb1': Operation not supported
Mount is denied because the NTFS journal file is unclean. Choices are:
    A) Shutdown Windows properly.
    B) Click the 'Safely Remove Hardware' icon in the Windows taskbar
notification area before disconnecting the device.
    C) Use 'Eject' from Windows Explorer to safely remove the device.
    D) If you ran chkdsk previously then boot Windows again which will
    automatically initialize the journal.
    E) Run 'ntfsfix' on Linux which will reset the NTFS journal.
    F) Mount the volume read-only by using the 'ro' mount option.
    stian@stian-desktop:~$

Sorry guy, but you must have windows, there is unfortunatly no equivalent to chkdsk in linux, and this is the only way to repear the error you get.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Hi, i did a reinstall of pmount (from your repro, the original is gone?)
and a full system scann of my hard drive in windows!

well the full system scan stopped after phase 5 with some error
when i try to write files on my drive in windows my windows crashes!

but the drive is readable in windows and linux again now
    i dont know whats up!
tomorrow i ll backup it to another one of my drives and do more checks
i am afraid to lose data (Again)

    thanks for your help!

Before or after using ntfs-3g, if it was after, let me look at the log. You can get them by following :

Don't be afraid, read/write is quite stable right now, the probability to lose data is near zero.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Thanks a bunch, everything worked and I can now use my 160 gb windows partition

Oh well there was one minor issue, it mounts correctly in /media, but it doesnt show up in konquerors media:/

Now since I dont really ever use media:/ it doesnt really matter, but you said to report anything odd...

Put sudo before your mount command.

nagates, pmount-hal is the command use y the 'automount', that should work. If not, what DE do you use (kde, gnome...) ?

BatteryCell, Last time i tested it, it worked. edgy or dapper ? If dapper, you should also use the main-all channel.

Hi I'm very interested in this but I have an amd64 arch...I get:

Failed to fetch http://flomertens.keo.in/ubuntu/dist...64/Packages.gz 404 Not Found

Is there any way to use this in an amd64?

    Thanks
