    What does "Ign" mean?
Can I continue with "upgrade, install"?
Ign means ignore. Try updating again. Then try the rest of the commands. If it succeeds, then everything is OK.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

    givre:

there is a minor problem with your ntfs-3g-nautilus-tools package. it fails with

    Setting up ntfs-3g-nautilus-tools (0.10-1) ...
mkdir: cannot create directory `/home/ftp/.gnome2/nautilus-scripts/': No such file or directory
    dpkg: error processing ntfs-3g-nautilus-tools (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    ntfs-3g-nautilus-tools
    E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

fix: if you add the -p option to the mkdir command on line 9 of postinst, it works.

Pendrive is /dev/sda1 formatted in fat32.
Same error in my case, no USB-drive can be mounted nor accessed now by the KDE's media:/ KIO slave Original packages didn't produce this error. The new HAL package must have broken some functionality, as it was the only thing installed that had something to do with other media.

The ntfs-3g itself works great, but at the cost of losing media autodetection / automount. Any KDE expert to fix this?

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

    Hi guys,

dyssident, 0.9.11-1ubuntu2givre5 was just a clean up release, so ntfs-3g is still not the default. But it will come soon. A new version of ntfs-3g is coming and it's getting better & better so let's see the feedback for this one, and i'll do it.
For the subprocess error, i now the problem & it's fix, but it's too minor for a new release. Thanks.

Cariboo1938, there is no amd64 package in my repo (can't build them), so you'll have to build them by yourself. It's quite easy, the instruction are in the thread, just search for amd64. Sorry

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

    New release is there :
Thanks to Roland Kletzing's tireless function and corner case testing by
several tools and ways, and sending piles of bug reports, this release is
yet another major step during the stabilization process. The fixes for
    disk-full handling are important.

All currently known issues should be listed in the README file. Please let
us know if you are aware of any undocumented one.

    Major changes:

    - fix: file creation at disk-full may lead to i/o errors
    - fix: statistic of inodes and free inodes was incorrect (df -i)
    - fix: the 'umask' option wasn't always parsed as an octal number
    - fix: "too long filename" handling wasn't posix compliant
    - fix: mount failed if $MFTMirr had unused garbage at the file end

Contributors were Roland Kletzing, Miklos Szeredi, Klaus Knopper, Allanon,
    Florent Mertens, and Moddy.

The list of distributions which include or have ntfs-3g packages available:
Ubuntu, Gentoo, Kanotix, Debian, openSUSE, PLD Linux, Arch Linux, Puppy
LiveCD, Frugalware, Slax, Musix, Slackware, Kurumin, Tilix, GParted LiveCD,
Trinity Rescue Kit, Vector Linux, ALT Linux, PUD Linux.

Thank you to all package maintainers helping to bridge the interoperability
gaps between Windows and other systems!
A little change. All new package will be signed, so you'll need to add my key by executing one of the following command:
    Code:
    wget http://flomertens.keo.in/ubuntu/givre_key.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
    wget http://givre.cabspace.com/ubuntu/givre_key.asc -O- | sudo apt-key add -
New version are upload on 2/3 mirrors for the moment, the last one should be ok this weekend.

    Thanks

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

    I am getting this error:

    ~$ sudo apt-get install ntfs-3g
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
    that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
    ntfs-3g: Depends: libc6 (>= 2.4-1) but 2.3.6-0ubuntu20 is to be installed
Depends: libntfs-3g but it is not going to be installed
    E: Broken packages

    Me too!

Edit: Fixed by using this in the sources list instead of whatever I used the first time.
    Code:
    #Givre's repository (ntfs-3g & fuse 2.5.3)
    deb http://ntfs-3g.sitesweetsite.info/ubuntu/ dapper main
    deb-src http://ntfs-3g.sitesweetsite.info/ubuntu/ dapper main
I guess I was using the one that was not updated.
