    P86, this method will install ntfs-3g 1.0

sertansenturk, if you don't write to it, there is no risk at all. Now you can also set one drive to be readonly, just add the 'ro' option in /etc/fstab

    Raein, thanks, i'll add that.

finer recliner, which release do you run ?

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

ok, first of all, hi everyone... and thanks givré for the detailed instructions. I have managed to get my NTFS drives working (read/write).

I have now another "problem" which concerns USB NTFS drives (auto-mounted at boot) and i think it could fit in this topic.
I need to have my USB NTFS disk mounted with the right permissions so that EVERYONE can read or write (or execute)... As this drive isn't listed in /etc/fstab (where i could change the permissions like i can do with other non-usb partitions), i don't know how to change the permissions... The current way, only myself and root can access that partition... other local users can't

chmod 777 doesn't work for non-linux filesystems (AFAIK)...

I know this may seem a dumb question but when you're a noob you can't avoid it hehehe

Thanks in advance for the help

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

    Here problem
I cant install ntfs-config because this error:
    Code:
I seguenti pacchetti hanno dipendenze non soddisfatte:
      ntfs-config: Dipende: libdbus-1-2 (>= 0.60) ma non è installabile
    E: Pacchetto non integro
I look in google and it corresponds to this:
    Code:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
ntfs-config: Depends: libdbus-1-2 (>= 0.60) but it is not installable
    E: Broken packages
I found this in that (click here) post you've (givré) already read...

    WHAT CAN WE DO?

    Thanks

    I resolved.
I dowloaded the packets for dapper but I've got edgy...

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Mangiafuoco, you probably mixed up the two repo.
ntfs-config is dependant on libdbus-1.3 on edgy and libdbus-1.2 on dapper, as expected.

ShadowZ, you can't actually do that on edgy. If you want special permission support, you'll have to configure your USB drive in /etc/fstab

Talking Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Great It worked for me on Edgy 6.10. Just selected the automatic install and ran the configuration as it explains in the tutorial. I selected both check boxes in the configuration tool for internal and external.

    thanks a lot.

finer recliner, do you use the main-all channel of the repo ? It is necessary in your case.
If yes, could you give me the output of :
    Code:
    sudo apt-cache policy hal
    Thanks.
