Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

Sorry if this is a double post. I posted it earlier, but I think it was in the wrong thread.

I just installed the latest version of NTFS-3G on my kubuntu dapper machine today. Everyhting works well except I am no longer able to plug in a USB thumb drive (FAT32) and have it automout.

    I run:
    Code:
    pmount-hal /dev/sda1
and it mounts fine. My question is what do I need to change so I don't have to type that each time I plug in a USB drive?

    Thanks
    D10

D10, if pmount-hal works, it should works out of the box.
What version of hal do you have :
    Code:
    sudo apt-cache policy hal

There seems to be something missing in the instructions for adding the GPG keys.

    The instructions say to
    Code:
    wget http://
but seem to be missing a "-q", and should say
    Code:
    wget -q http://
You will be prompted for your password, and then should get an "OK" message.

toobuntu, this option is just to make wget quiet, nothing more.

Is there any easy way to install version 1.0 of the ntfs-3g driver? Sorry if this has been posted before. Thanks.

Re: HOWTO: NTFS with read/write support using ntfs-3g (easy method)

It was probably asked before but I wasn't able to track it so please accept my apologies.

I'm using Ubuntu Edgy and I have successfully installed ntfs-3g. I'd like to know if there is a way to stop write access to a folder ( /media/sda1/WINDOWS in particular ) just to avoid unwanted accidents?
