Where does it say to do "apt-get fuse-source"? You've chosen to miss out part of the instructions.

Ah... I though you were quoting from givré's post above ("This is my Christmas present for every ntfs-3g users"). Looks like you've spotted a doc bug . Yes, you need to put the "install" back in.

I've been through the new 'Christmas' instructions twice now, and still no joy.

The drive mounts okay, but most of the folders on the drive aren't visable. If I switch back to the default edgy NTFS support in fstab, everything is fine... meaning I can see all the folders and access the files, but no write support.

When I enable ntfs-3g in fstab and reboot, the drive is there... but there's only one folder visible. The folder is one that I created natively in linux, but some others that I also created natively aren't there. It is like the other folders just don't exist.

Anyone have any ideas?

Looks like everything is up and running well so far! Followed the instructions, and my external HDD mounted automatically with read/write, and according to fstab my windows partition mounted with no problems. I'm testing the writing/reading right now, and it seems to be working fine so far.

Great! I just transfered a file from my Ubuntu desktop to the Windows desktop with a simple Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V. Thanks for the HowTo, Givre, I used the Christmas version. The first time I tried, it didn't work; I had certainly missed an important step.

To those who get a message that was reported by wilberfan: Just go along with what the README.debian file says, and everything will be all right.
The command is : sudo apt-get install fuse-source

i am running dapper. i followed your tutorial but it didn't seem to work for me.

im trying to mount my ntfs windows partition on an internal drive.

here is what it says when I go to Places--Computer---30 gb Volume:

Unable to Mount the selected volume
mount: only root can mount /dev/hda1 on /media/hda1

nevermind i got it by rebooting my computer into windows.. apparently it needed to do a disc scan and boot into windows twice before the ntfs partition would mount.
