    12.04 Installer crashing

Hello. I recently built a functioning PC for the first time. I was excited to have learned about Ubuntu, and began loading 12.04 it onto a thumb drive even as I was building the PC. I am trying to run Ubuntu as a stand-alone OS and whenever I try to install it, the installer crashes. Based on the error report it sends every time it crashes, there seems to be a bug somehow stopping or interrupting the installation. Is this issue a hardware or software issue?

    Welcome to UF.
Try booting into the live cd and selecting try ubuntu. When the desktop loads try clicking on the install icon and see if the same thing happens.
Did you check the md5sum of the downloaded iso to make sure the download is good?

    Re: 12.04 Installer crashing

I apologize, I must not have been clear enough. I booted Ubuntu off of a thumb drive, not a CD. Where can I see the install icon from the USB installation?

Also, what do I check on the md5sum on the .iso to see that it's good?
