You say you tried to change it? Do you think you succeeded ? Have you tried both passwords, the original and the one you think you tried to change it to?

I can and I am and I have and it didn't and I have and it still didn't work.

I'm not sure I can assist any further.
If the machine was new with Ubuntu on it, there must be some documentation or support for it.

Otherwise you best course is to get a Bootable USB of Ubuntu
