For those interested...
The very best turn-based strategy game has a new version coming out (latest info sez it'll be the end of September, pushed back from the end of August). It's currently on sale for preorder on Desura. Here's the skinny from the devs:

The Dominions forums are, as you might expect, all abuzz about this, and there are some beta YouTube "Let's Play" videos online.
This is a game that is developed in Linux, and ported afterward to Windows and Mac.

It appears that the release date will be pushed back to the end of September, and preorders may get beta access (it is devoutly to be hoped).
Here's what Illwinter's page says:
"Dominions 4 is still under development and was expected to be completed in late August. That has been now delayed a month, but hopefully preorderers will be able to play before that. You can preorder Dominions 4 on Desura."
Hopefully....

Beta is now available for those who pre-ordered. you can still pre-order to get access to beta-version.

The beta's files have not been made executable; it's an easy fix, but you'll want to chmod + x them...
The interface has been tremendously improved, along with the Thrones of Ascension, with little niceties like new mages starting research automatically, and queued recruitment (along with a new wrinkle, slow recruitment).
Also, the manual is still a WIP, but, as the opening screen says, if you've played Dominions 3, you shoud have a pretty good idea of what is going on.

Here's today's update and its changelog:
This game is being, shall we say, actively developed. There is a pretty large online community on Desura and elsewhere, adding their hints and comments. Some of the bugs and additions a newish player might never play a nation specific enough to even know the bugs exist. This is seriously deep development work, and this game is developed in Linux before being ported to Windows and OSX. Of course, Linux has always been a great programming environment and its nice to see that one of the most highly-regarded games is being as assiduously worked on as it is.Dominions 4: Thrones of Ascension Changelog
