    HDMI output and sound has always worked in Windows but I don't dual-boot anymore (I removed and banned Windows because of how it doesn't give me control of my laptop's video card driver, hence my insistence on using Ubuntu).

    @GUZZLR: the open-source radeon driver doesn't support HDMI audio on the new cards yet. If you're using fglrx, I recommend you purge your current version: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...talyst.2Ffglrx

    Then, install 13-8 Beta2, which has official support for the 8x00 chips: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...2FEXPERIMENTAL

    An update on my own problem. I learned that the Nouveau driver supports HDMI audio on the NV50 series. My GeForce 310m happens to be part of that series and when I uninstalled the NVIDIA driver, the HDMI audio (and video) ended up working without a single problem. In addition to integrating perfectly with the system, Nouveau is somehow better for my use than the proprietary driver. Call that a huge win for free drivers.

    OK...Good News!
    Following the instructions of Uninstalling and Reinstalling Beta-2 13.8 has worked!
    1. I now have two monitors which are in an extended fashion
    2. I no longer have the "Unsupported" AMD, small square banner in the lower right part of the screen
    3. I have Catalyst Control Center, both regular and administative

    However, I still can not get into the administrative Cataylst Control Center for advanced adjustments, simply because I don't know what the password is?
