Just acquired a Dell Inspiron M5040

I just traded for this laptop, a Dell Inspiron M5040. It seems to be a very nice laptop and I'm gonna install Ubuntu 13.04 on it this weekend. Does Dell doctor up the Ubuntu install that they put on the computers they sell with Linux? I was just asking, also has anybody installed Ubuntu on this model of laptop before? What I will do is post back to the forums with all my results, good or bad. Thanks,

Well I did install Ubuntu 13.04 64bit on my Dell and everything went off without a hitch. I didn't bother with any special installs from Dell because they only use the LTS versions. I guess maybe that's the way they should do it for commercial deployment. I installed from a usb jump drive and was up and running in no time. It's not the best Dell laptop but it does a pretty good job of running Ubuntu 13.04.

Just checked that one out on Dell site, looks pretty good. Does it have this UEFI BIOS?

I had come across a report of some Dell-specific tweaks but posts or articles about Dells with Ubuntu pre-installed are quite rare.

Anyway, nice to know you've got things going!
