To operate my space death ray
Same here, the only thing forcing me to run Windows at home is for games. At work I have no choice because all our software runs on Windows only.
I'm new to Ubuntu and I gotta say I'm really liking it. So far I'm using it for fun and doing some Qt development but I'd like to start using it for everything, except games of course
I use it simply for speed, functionality and freedom.
As a student i have very little funds so in building a computer i didnt have alot of parts to play around with and when the windows OS came into the budget, thats when i started with ubuntu and became a lover of all linux variants, apart from Mint, but we all have our one we dislike.
My favourites current sit at debian, 'buntu, fedora.

I use Linux just the same as I used to use Windows. I am not much of a gamer, do have a few games loaded though. Mostly I save and listen to music I grab off youtube, surf the web, create an occasional document and use Gimp to tinker around with graphics. I run Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS and Mint and I have no complaints with any of these.
What do I use Windows for?
- Just keeping it updated as it takes far too long to apply all those monthly updates if left for too long.
- Very occasional use of MS Office 2010 when I need to either create or modify a document that needs to be 100% readable by my employer as Libreoffice occasionally lets me down.
What do I use Ubuntu for?
Pretty much everything else now although to be pedantic I mainly use Kubuntu.
I use it for what ever things I use Windows for. Both OS does the work fine . Some of the main things are: Watch anime, do some coding (for fun) and try to look into settings, etc.
I use Ubuntu for my servers.
My other machines run Arch or #!.
