How long to format HDD

I have an old computer running Vista, I decided to install Lubuntu on it. I partitioned off a 140gig section for Lubuntu. I downloaded Lubuntu using the alternate install method, due to age of the machine. Burned the ISO, and started the install, chose the manual install option, pointed installer to the 140gig partition and clicked install. It started formatting the drive, that was 5 hrs ago, and it's not even to 70%. Should it be taking this long, or is this typical?
