    Multiple Windows 7 Loaders?

Today i have struggled with getting my WiFi working correctly on my HP 2000 laptop BUT i got it working and functional.

now its on to the unsightly mess in the GRUB OS selection that i dont care for so much let alone i have no idea at all what so ever WHY there are 2 Windows 7 (loader) options.....apparently there is one on /dev/sda1 as well as /dev/sda2 . I do not know why but i decided to use a tool called Boot-Repair for Ubuntu, im familiar with this tool for making a few alterations on for example this computer so that windows 7 was the default booing OS so i add'd the repo to install and use it and performed the "recommended fix" and for some reason both of those windows 7 loaders exist...they both work and boot the same windows 7 install....so surely i dont need them both, how do i remove one of them...or choose which one to remove for that matter.

in case it is needed here is the output of Boot-Repair that it gives the link to when it completed http://paste.ubuntu.com/5892903/

The boot files of [The OS now in use - Ubuntu 13.04] are far from the start of the disk. Your BIOS may not detect them. You may want to retry after creating a /boot partition (EXT4, >200MB, start of the disk). This can be performed via tools such as gParted. Then select this partition via the [Separate /boot partition:] option of [Boot Repair]. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootPartition)

    Re: Multiple Windows 7 Loaders?

I suspect that there are Windows Boot Loader files on the two partitions. This is something that OEM, in your case HP, is responsible for. That is why Grub detects Windows on two partitions and makes two entries. Not 100% sure if its a bug or an OEM install method.
If I were you I wouldn't worry too much as long as Windows is booting fine.

Its not even the OEM hard drive on here as a matter of fact the OEM hard drive died and i ended up using the windows 7 product key and an install DVD i had to install it on a new hard drive.....so i have no idea what is going on here....how ever when i set up windows 7 (the first OS i installed) it insisted i left some empty space on the hard drive for some reason i do not recall

    Re: Multiple Windows 7 Loaders?

Many users do not know that the 100MB hidden recovery partition is really the boot partition. So Boot-Repair backs up the bootmgr to your main install. Then grub2's os-prober finds both bootmgrs and creates boot entries for both.
The one in sda1 has recovery but the boot from grub to sda1 is so quick that few can get f8 to work, so just best to have a Windows repairCD or flash drive.

You can turn os-prober off and manually add just one of those entries to 40_custom

Make your own Windows repairCD (not vendor recovery):

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2076205

    Copy the entries from this:
    sudo cp -a /boot/grub/grub.cfg /boot/grub/grub.cfg.backup
    gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Copy them to and edit to have only entries you want:
    gksudo gedit /etc/grub.d/40_custom
    Then do:
    sudo update-grub

If that works then remove the os-prober entries.
    In /etc/default/grub I added this:
    gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub
    GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true
    or turn off executeable bit
    sudo chmod a-x /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober
    sudo update-grub
