Clock/calendar and unwanted icons/shortcuts on desktop

Running Raring 13.04 32 Bit, under MATE, having these two issues:

    1. I have three icons on the desktop ("Computer" "so and so's Home" and "Trash") that I can't get rid of. I understand gnome-tweak-tools and MATE are oblivious to each other, so gnome-tweak-tool won't take care of it.In Gnome-Fallback Gnome3 (unity, correct?) and Mate, the "delete" context-menu option for these is grayed-out.

    2. The clock/calendar applet that is supposed to interface with the calendar in evolution, doesn't -- doesn't show upcoming events, doesn't launch the evolution calendar when double-clicking on a date in the applet, etc. This is under MATE and Gnome-Fallback. In Under Gnome3, it's (more or less) fine.

    Any ideas, anyone?

    Many thanks!

AFIK Mate has its own configuration editor that may allow you to remove the desktop icons and you may be able to remove them via dconf editor per the first link . I can't advise on the second problem though.

    From the Mate forums: http://forums.mate-desktop.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1631
