    Can't Approve 'Visitor Message'

I did a search, in this forum, for 'visitor' -- couldn't find anything recent.

Thread title pretty much says it all, but...

Vb notified me that I have a 'Visitor Message' waiting. Tried to approve it every_which_way_to_sunday, but I keep receiving the following dialog:

    Code:
You did not select any valid messages
I checked, unchecked, and checked the message box again -- on my Profile page, and on the 'Message Conversation' page.

Vbulletin won't allow me to use any user 'moderation tools'...

If you can send a message to sidh - I'll have a look http://ubuntuforums.org/member.php?u=1734676 at what you see.

    Re: Can't Approve 'Visitor Message'

BTW, it took a couple of minutes for the visitor message to post, after clicking submit...

    Code:
    Sun Jul 14 16:28:04 UTC 2013
    EDIT

And, about a minute for this one, too...

    Re: Can't Approve 'Visitor Message'

OK - can see your message fine - what I'm not seeing is even any reason why I'd need to approve it.

I've never seen an option to do so in the last 6 years.

Haven't replied yet as I need to reset sidh's details so I can use it as a Trusted User properly, and it's Sunday evening ...

    I'll look tomorrow again.

Aha! I did a little digging...

    1.- Moderated/Unapproved Visitor Messages

Have you ever received a message that says "This message is moderated"???

Or that you have notifications saying "unapproved visitor messages", but you can’t see them anywhere???.

Read here and you will find out how to solve this problem. =]

    Solution :

    • When a message is moderated, it means that our system is automatically identifying it as Spam or not authorized information to be posted in VMs. Sometimes it depends on the content of the message like, too short, too full of characters, links, images, is in other language, the IP of the sender is being moderated, etc.

    • It does not necessarily mean the message is inappropriate, just that the system automatically moderates it until the message gets approved.

In those cases, to approve the message just follow these instructions:

    • Scroll down in your VM board.

    • Identify the VMs that have in the Upper right corner a message that says ‘this message is moderated’.

    • Select the message in the box next to the IP of the member

    • Scroll down and open "Moderation Tools" and click "approve messages" to approve it.

    • The problem should be solved with just this.

If this does not solve the problem, contact a moderator to look into the problem.
    My 'best guess' is...

Vb *thinks* the VM on my profile page is spam.

It isn't. The OP has been playing ToW with us, lately, and was just sending greets.

Vb is notifying me that I may/may_not have spam in my VM -- and, it's asking me to approve/unapprove it, et cetera -- which doesn't work, e.g. the VM moderation option(s) don't do jack. Vb just displays the VM regardless.

    Make sense?!?!?

I *guess* that the VM I sent you wasn't spammy enough for Vb, so you aren't seeing the user 'moderation' option(s).

I'll send sidh the same exact VM that was sent to me, and we'll see if it gets flagged...

Had a look - I see the same things, and the mod tools - I'm pretty sure that the issue you're getting is because you see the mod tools, not sure why you should see those at all.

    Re: Can't Approve 'Visitor Message'

@VinDSL, I have a simpler possible explanation than yours. I think it's simply a bug/undocumented feature of Vbulletin 4. With a dummy account in the >25 posts usergroup, I can see what you and Elfy see - delete, approve, and unapprove messages under moderation tools. There's a forum setting which allows people in the >25 posts usergroup, but not those with fewer posts, to manage visitor messages in their profile. This is intended to allow people to (soft) delete VMs. I can't be 100% sure that I remember this correctly, but before the upgrade from vBulletin 3, I think that's all you could see - delete VMs. It looks as though approve and unapprove - which are moderation tools - have come along for a pointless ride. Since non-moderators shouldn't be seeing moderation tools and since you can't do anything with them, I shouldn't worry about it.

My guess is that if this is not due to a bug, that it's a quirk of some obscure setting deep within adminCP. I'll have a rummage around in there when I get time.
