    Ubuntu 12.04 and 13.04 crashes a lot

    Hi there,

I have recently installed ubuntu 13.04 on my desktop, but it crashes almost always when using it. Most of the time everything gets frozen at login screen and nothing works anymore. I had the same problem with ubuntu 12.04. I have a Packard Bell desktop. I have these components:
    Intel pentium E5200 2.50 GHz
    Packard Bell MCP73PUT-PM
    NVIDIA Geforce 7100/nForce 630i 256 mb
I run ubuntu next to Windows 8. I have no problems at all with windows.

Does anyone know what is wrong and how I can fix this?

    Kind regards

Hi I am new to linux but I had the same problem with you, at gnome desktop.
I have also nVidia graphics card and there was a problem with my drivers.
Try to change your drivers from software & updates > Additional Drivers and instead of X. Org X server blablabla.... drivers, select NVIDIA Χorg.... drivers and at the end of the line says (proprietary, tested).

P.S.: I'm using 304 "Driver's Version" (an older one) because I've tested in DOTA and the framerate is better. Also I feel my PC working better with that version.

Good luck, and let me know if I helped.
