Left4Dead2 Freezes at loading screen

I switched my OS to Ubuntu recently and was pleasantly surprised when all of my Source Games were available on Steam for Linux.
I installed L4D2, and watched through the opening video, only to be stopped by the L4D2 Loading Screen. I could move my curser around, but i couldnt switch programs or anything.

Oh yeah, this same thing happens with Garrys Mod as well.

What graphics card do you have? Might need to install the proper drivers. A lot of Steam games demand it, but don't always tell you.

I have a Radeon HD 6870.

I don't have much knowledge on ATI cards. I know mostly Nvidia. Wait until someone shows up to help you with your card.

But still answer these two questions please and that will be great help to the next helper here.
What version of Ubuntu do you have?
Did you install a graphics driver or not?

Look for Hardware Drivers; it should say that there is a FGLRX Radeon driver (closed source).

Actually it would be under Additional Drivers in System Settings (the gear in Unity bar on left with typical installation). See if any suggested drivers show Activated. If you do not know about that or manually installing other drivers you may be using default radeon drivers.

The only issues I had (PC in my sig) with L4D2 beta that was free to play this weekend was that the mouse cursor showed up when changing levels, limiting how far I could turn with the mouse (could not turn around), but simply hitting Esc and resuming the game cleared that up. Also the microphone does not seem to work in Linux
