Using Airport express !st gen to connect to internet

I am currently using 12.04 on my desktop. i use my airport express as a bridge because of its location away from the router. it is a first gen, and connects fine to my xbox and laptop but the desktop wont accept the connection. the light on the airport is green as well. my desktop spends its time looking for the connection but it just wont connect. the little ")))" thing goes up and down for about 5 mins then the notification pops up saying disconnected. and i am completely lost as to a solution can anyone point me in the right connection? thank you in advance. and i will try to be timely about my responses.
