    showing Scribus page grid

I'm about to pull my hair out. I've checked "show page grid" in Scribus preferences and also View > Show Grid, but I cannot get the page grid to show. I've Ixquicked "Scribus page grid", but cannot find help for this problem. Any suggestions from more experienced Scribus users? Please?

Well, I've figured out that if I have a background color, it covers the grid. I'm not sure how to adjust its opacity once I've added image and text boxes, nor how to add background color last, but at least I know what's going on.

The answer to that problem is to use layers. Seems like it ought to be a duh after using Gimp so much, but it really is a different program.
